Wanderlust [won-der-lust] noun:
A very strong desire or impulse to wander and explore the world.
This past week, I was able to give in to my leadership consultant induced wanderlust and explore just a little bit more of the world. I was sent on a visit to our Theta Phi Chapter at the University of Tennesee at Chattanooga and I absolutely fell head over heels with the city as well as the different locations my journey took me to. While I have flown to the east coast many times, I’ve never driven. Because of this, I’ve never had the opportunity to see the mountains in person. For this visit, I was close enough to make a road-trip across the “Volunteer State”. Driving into Chattanooga was extremely emotional as I was able to finally see the mountains for the first time and it was just breathtaking. Between the sun shining off of the Tennesee River and the multi-colored trees lining the hills, it was an image I’ll never forget. The beautiful scenery continued into the brick-lined roads of the city and refurbished cafes and restaurants I was able to go to during my trip.
During my visit, one of the Theta Phi members volunteered to take me to one of her favorite hiking spots, Sunset Rock, which gave me a beautifully unique view of the city. Being in the mountains was surreal. You could see for miles and the scenery was something out of a movie. Hiking up and down the mountains was also fun and allowed me to see more of the Tennessee wilderness.
Not only did I get to see the amazing views of Chattanooga, I was able to experience Initiation with the chapter. Being able to be with the women on this special day and seeing 50 new members be brought into the Sigma Kappa sisterhood was truly special, and allowed me to reaffirm my own commitment and loyalty to the sorority. Congratulations ladies and thank you for letting me be apart of your special day!
On my last night in Chattanooga, I was able to watch the sunset on the city’s walking bridge and it truly was a magical experience. Getting to know the city from the eyes of the people that call it home was amazing, and having the opportunity to drive around the city and get my own feel for it is something that I normally do not get to do during chapter visits. I’ve truly grown to love this city, and can’t wait to come back soon.
Going on this visit has only increased my wanderlust and I can’t wait for my next adventure. I’m in love with cities I’ve never been to and people I’ve never met, so I can’t wait until this crazy adventure sends me somewhere soon.
Until next time,
