This month’s book is full of crime and passion and a hip replacement or two…
The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules by Catharina Ingelman Sundberg
Thriller and Suspense – Current Time, The Diamond Nursing Home
“Now everything is sold on the internet and anybody at all who doesn’t know a thing can give their opinion.”
– The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules
So here is the scoop: This story follows five friends as they embark on a journey of rags to riches and by rags, I mean one cup of coffee a day and nurses who are unfriendly at Diamond House Retirement Home. Martha has high hopes that, with their Zimmer walkers, these four elderly friends can break into the richest hotels and national museums to steal from the rich and give to themselves, just like Robin Hood. The League of Pensioners is ready to rebel against all the rules and show that 79-year-olds can still have some adventure as long as it’s before bedtime.
Thoughts: This book seemed intriguing to me, first and foremost, due to first the name; I mean what rules could a little old lady truly break? However, this heartwarming tale pulled me in until the end of the story. Not too long ago, on Aug. 10, my grandfather passed way, which was hard. It also happened to be my first week traveling full-time as this happened; it was impossible to believe. However, I realized that life moves on and people move apart from one another. Thankfully, I was close with my grandparents, but not everyone is – like Martha and her grandchildren. This book made me stop and think about everything and everyone in my life who I care for and what my relationship is like with them. While the list of people is long, I’m working through it just like I know Martha and The League of Pensioners are working on their next adventure.
