Its me again, one last time. This Midwestern gal transplanted to the south has one week left on the road as a Sigma Kappa Leadership Consultant. Of course, its no surprise that I’ve been having a lot of feelings over the last few weeks about ending this year. I am excited, nervous, a little sad, but mostly I am grateful. The conclusion to my role as an LC brings reflection on not only the past year, but the past five years in which Sigma Kappa has played a central role in my life.
Sigma Kappa came to me at a time in my life when I needed it most, even though I didn’t realize it right then and there. I went through recruitment in the spring of my freshman year after finishing a very tough first semester of college. I was struggling academically, emotionally, and I was one more failed chemistry test away from ditching Marquette University all together. When I walked into Sigma Kappa on my first night of recruitment, it felt like home. The women at Kappa Nu saw the potential in me before I even saw it in myself, and three days later I opened a bid card that changed my life course. This organization continued to play a central role in my undergraduate experience and it even got me my first post-graduate job.
I am a better woman than I was five years ago because of this organization and all I can say is thank you.
Thank you Sigma Kappa for allowing me to develop the leader in myself through multiple roles in my collegiate chapter and now with our national organization.
Thank you Sigma Kappa for reigniting my faith through Ritual and the framework of this organization that was built 143 years ago.
Thank you Sigma Kappa for teaching me that I have so much to offer, and that authentic confidence will carry you farther than you realize in life.
Thank you Sigma Kappa for holding me accountable to all my actions, the good and the bad.
Thank you Sigma Kappa for helping me learn that everything you put into sisterhood, you receive tenfold.
Thank you Sigma Kappa for all the mentors and role models I have gained. My big, my LC supervisor, former consultants and chapter advisors. I know I would not be where I am today without their encouragement and support.
Thank you Sigma Kappa for my best friend- the person who inspires me every day to be a better human and the person who will stand next to me on my wedding day (in the very distant future lol).
Thank you Sigma Kappa for that little house on 17th street where I made the best memories of my life and where I watched far too many scary movies with humans who support wearing sweatpants to any life event.
Thank you Sigma Kappa for this LC team. There are very few people who will still love you even though you forget their Starbucks mobile order on the counter, and equally as few people who will still ride in your car even though you almost took someone out on the highway with the La Croix you forgot on the roof.
Thank you Sigma Kappa for the collegians who I have had the pleasure to serve. It is these young leaders and inspiring women who keep me going and get me out of bed every single morning.
Thank you Sigma Kappa for this year of growth and change. Thank you for moving me to the South and for teaching me to kill a giant roach all by myself. #personalgrowth
Most of all, thank you Sigma Kappa- for giving me a place to walk quietly up the back steps, and confidently out the front door.
