Throughout my college experience, people always told me I was incredibly positive. I won awards within several of my organizations for my positivity and was known as “miss positive.” Some would ask, “how do you always stay so positive, what is your secret?” Honestly, it all begins with the start of your day. Each and every day brings with it a new opportunity to create a positive atmosphere around you! Having a productive and organized morning routine helps eliminate stress from your day to day life and leads to a happier life. So today, I wanted to share with you some tricks and tips I use to help have a successful morning!
Eat a Good Breakfast!
Breakfast is most important meal of the day. It gives your body the energy to start your day! Try to incorporate protein into your breakfast. Protein will help keep you feeling full until your next meal and will help keep the pre-lunch stomach growls to a minimum. I like to start my day out with eggs. Eggs give me the protein and energy I need to start my workday, not to mention the endless fun ways to prepare them! Whether it is omelets, egg sandwiches, boiled, or scrambled; eggs are an excellent choice and allow you to get creative in the kitchen!
Small Task, Big Impact
Clean up and the area where you slept. By starting out your day making your bed, you have already accomplished an easy task. Completing that one easy task will encourage you to move on to the next item on your to-do list. Studies have also shown the appearance of your room has an effect on your mood. Keeping a tidy room helps promote a stress-free atmosphere and a positive mind.
The Perfect Duo to Start Your Day
Do not let your day start off with a drag. Enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee! It is just the thing to fight against early morning fatigue and to get you ready for the busy day ahead of you. We all know coffee is great, but make sure to limit yourself to one to two cups. Make sure to drink plenty of water and to stay hydrated. Studies show that proper hydration boosts energy levels and helps fight fatigue. Starting your day off with a cup of coffee will help wake you up, and water will keep you going throughout the day!
Be Wise, Organize!
Start planning your day the night before. Wake up and make a to-do list for your day. Set at least one goal for yourself to get accomplished by the time you go to sleep. When creating your schedule, think about errands you need to run, work-related projects, and any activities you want to do like going to the gym or seeing the latest movie release with your friends! Get detailed with your lists! Include shopping lists, chores, and any other tasks you want to get accomplished. Something beneficial that I do is create a list of things I need now, things I want, and things I want but can wait until later to buy. This helps me stay organized and budget money to make sure all my needs are met but also that I can get a few of those “wants” as well. Most importantly, make sure to set aside time to relax every day to clear your mind. Whether it is for fifteen minutes or an hour, never forget to have some me-time!
The Ripple Effect
Take the morning and your day on with a good attitude and a smile. A negative attitude is easily perceived by those around you. Your attitude matters because your mood is contagious. A simple hello and smile to a fellow coworker can be the difference between them having a good day or a bad day. Not only can that coworkers attitude hinge on that smile, but everyone that person comes across with throughout the day can be positively or negatively impacted by your friendly greeting. So every morning when you wake up, remember the impact you can make simply by having a positive attitude. As Scott Adams once said, “Remember there is no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” Try to make a positive ripple every morning!
