Eat This: Cook Out

General Summary

There’s something to be said about being able to order hushpuppies, corndogs, and quesadillas all at the same establishment. Not limiting themselves to the standard fast food restaurant items, Cook Out is a shining beacon where one can go to meet any and all fried food needs. However, Cook Out’s execution is hit-or-miss and will occasionally leave you disappointed. That being said, Cook Out is a fun novelty restaurant to visit if you ever find yourself in the southeast.

Sides

Options: 10/10

Taste: 6/10

Freshness: 5/10

Overall Assessment: Hushpuppies. Slaw. Onion rings. Fries. Chicken nuggets. Chili. Corndog. Chicken wrap. Quesadilla. Bacon Wrap. All things you can order at Cook Out, all amazing options. Cook Out truly is the one-stop-shop if you’re craving some good ol’ fashioned junk food. Unfortunately, the food doesn’t actually taste very good, but it’s fun to go ahead and order anyway.

Cheeseburger

Condiment Level: 6/10

Taste: 5/10

Originality: 6/10

Overall Assessment: For a relatively well-known restaurant, Cook Out has an especially unremarkable burger. Granted, I opted for a classic cheeseburger over one with a million toppings on it, but I believe a burger should be able to stand on its own without the assistance of chili or onions to mask the taste. I pride myself on always finishing my meals, but this was one cheeseburger I left half-finished.

Sweet Tea

Sweetness: 10/10

Ice Level: 7/10

Happiness Level: 9/10

Overall Assessment: While I consider myself a loyal patron of McDonald’s sweet tea, Cook Out is a strong competitor in the fast food tea game. Finding the perfect balance between sweet and sweeter, Cook Out’s tea put me in a good mood for the entirety of a long day. If anyone’s in the need of a pick-me-up, Cook Out’s got you covered.

Atmosphere

Décor: 5/10

Friendliness: 6/10

Wait Time: 8/10

Overall Assessment: It was hard for me to gauge the atmosphere of Cook Out as the location I went to did not have any indoor seating, but I was not overly impressed. Having only a large menu and a walk-up ordering window, there was nowhere for my group to hide when it started raining. The workers, while not overtly rude, would clearly have rather been anywhere else. Overall, ordering and waiting for my food was not a pleasant experience.

Overall Evaluation: Average score of 6.9/10.
