Fall is my favorite time of the year. Not because of the pumpkin spiced lattes or the boots and scarves, but because all of my favorite shows on TV come back. This is Us, Designated Survivor and Nashville are a few of my personal favorites, but none of them can top my ultimate favorite – Grey’s Anatomy. I have been watching this show season after season since I was in junior high school. Every year, after some dramatic finale, I tell myself “That’s it! I am done with this show!” But here I am, still watching it. As I have gotten older, and after every traumatic event on the show, I found many life lessons and truths in the show that have resonated with me.
Always works hard and be unstoppable.
Channel your inner Christina Yang and always work hard to achieve your goals. She didn’t let anything get in the way of what she wanted and she never let anyone walk over her. In order to get to the top, you have to put in the hard work. It is always worth it in the end.
The carousel never stops turning.
When you sit around being sad, angry, or hurt, you have to remember that life doesn’t stop. Life is short and growing up is inevitable. You just have to embrace time and accept what’s meant to happen will happen and you have to keep living life. All of the characters have had to deal with challenges and tragedy, but they kept on going because the carousel never stops turning and you can’t get off the ride.
It is okay to be afraid.
Starting a new job, moving, and tons of other tough changes are scary. It is perfectly normal to be scared because the future is unknown and we don’t know what life is going to throw at us. In the long run, everything will work out how it is supposed to. Taking the leaps of faith and working through the fear will be all worth it in the end.
Your mistakes do not define who you are.
Making mistakes is a part of life, whether we like it or not. When we make a wrong turn, we learn a lesson and grow. This is how we become better people and leaders. Don’t dwell on it, pick yourself up, and take the lessons you learned to heart.
Always dance it out.
When life gets in the way and stress gets to you, the simple solution is to dance it out. Whenever Christina and Meredith were down or were faced with a challenge, they always stopped and danced it out. This really does help! Don’t worry, no one will judge you.
You are the sun.
This is a big lesson to take away. Whether you need a confidence boost or you have fallen for someone new, always remember you are the sun. Keep in touch with who you are and who you want to be, and never lose yourself. At times it may seem like others are more important than yourself, but they are not the sun, you are. Never let anyone eclipse your sun.
Trust no one… Actually, just Shonda Rhimes…
Shonda knows just where to hit you where it hurts. In Grey’s Anatomy world, absolutely no one is safe. She has no problem killing off your favorite character in a plane crash, shooting, or even a car crash (RIP Derek). Keep an eye on her. Shonda cannot be trusted!
