Dairy Queen is really only known for one thing: ice cream. I would normally say that limiting yourself to such a specific item would be a bad move, but that just isn’t the case when you do it so well. Dairy Queen’s ice cream makes life better and far surpasses every other ice cream establishment out and about. I am ~slightly~ biased as I used to work at a Dairy Queen, but that just makes me an expert, right? Personal bias aside, scroll on to read my take on a meal from Dairy Queen.
Salt Level: 6/10
Overall Assessment: Full disclosure- I am not a huge French fry person. When I normally go to a restaurant, I will bum three or four fries from a friend and won’t bother to actually order some fries for myself. That being said, I was still underwhelmed with Dairy Queen’s fries. They were fresh out of the fryer but were still mediocre, which says a lot about the overall quality of fries. On the whole, I would only recommend ordering fries if you are really hungry and need a full meal.
Chicken Quality: 8/10
Overall Assessment: Dairy Queen’s chicken tenders were good, not great. The breading was a little thick for my taste, but overall the chicken tenders made a decent main course. They were selling some spicy BBQ tenders that looked pretty good, but I am a baby about spice and didn’t want to risk it. The dipping sauce variety was lacking when compared to other restaurants (read: Chick-fil-A), but they had honey mustard so I made it work.
Overall Assessment: Not shocking given its name, Dairy Queen’s ice cream is amazing. Whether you’re going for their famous blizzard or the classic cone, Dairy Queen’s got you covered. As an added bonus, Dairy Queen actually uses soft serve that has less fat than normal ice cream, so now you don’t have to feel (as) guilty about eating it. My only issue with Dairy Queen’s ice cream is that they quit carrying Snickers as a topping option and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to completely move on. My favorite blizzard currently is a peanut butter cheesecake blizzard. If you like peanut butter and cheesecake, I highly recommend this combo. Pro tip: when you order, ask for a strawberry cheesecake blizzard with peanut butter sauce instead of strawberry so they won’t charge you for an extra topping.
Wait Time: 7/10
Overall Assessment: Dairy Queen’s ambiance is almost always disappointing, especially when considering the generic decorations. However, I do love all of the Dairy Queen history that is normally displayed around the restaurant. I feel like Dairy Queens are very hit and miss as far as cleanliness goes, but the particular establishment I visited for this post was not as clean as I would have liked. The workers were also rude and my food took forever, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt as the restaurant was very crowded and there were only two workers. Beyond this one experience, I normally have a very positive impression of Dairy Queen and find the workers pleasant and friendly.
Overall Evaluation: Average score of 7.6/10.
