How to Accept Change

Life is always changing and transitioning, and it can often be scary and hard to accept. Change is always uncomfortable, stressful, and emotional, but it is part of life and we can’t escape it. I have had to deal with a few changes and transitions throughout my life, and it never gets easier, but I have learned to deal with changes and accept life as one huge adventure. Here are a few things I have learned to do when it comes to accepting and welcoming change.

Focus on the Positives

Focusing on the positives while dealing with change can be difficult, but it can also help with managing the transitions. Whether its big or small, there is always a positive in a situation and it is worth seeking them out. It is hard to be away from my family and friends across the country, but one of the positives is that I am learning how to be more independent.

Manage Stress

Writing in a journal, practicing yoga, or reading can help with managing stress, and can help cope with transitions. Don’t stress out about stressing out, because it will make things a hundred times worse! Find something you love that will get your mind off of the stress, and it will be easier to manage.

Face Your Fears

Change is scary because of the unknown, but accepting the unknown and facing your fears can actually make change exciting and feel like an adventure. Use your fear as a motivator and keep going. Always remember everything happens for a reason, so face the fear head-on and keep moving forward.


It is not worth it to stress about situations that are beyond your control. Choosing to accept the change and becoming comfortable, will bring a peace of mind which is better than constantly stressing about it. Accept the challenge, and learn from it.

Talk it Out

Talking through your emotions will help manage the stress and fear that comes with change. It is okay to let your guard down and let someone in to help you. One of the best things you can do is to accept how you are feeling, let your guard down and talk to someone about how you are feeling and dealing with the change.
